Welcome to Disney Film Society!

Welcome to Disney Film Society, a place where our passion for movies meets our fascination with the history, creativity, and people behind them.

For nearly a century, The Walt Disney Company and the studios that have become part of its family have helped shape the world of motion pictures. From Walt Disney’s groundbreaking animated classics and unforgettable live-action adventures to Pixar’s imaginative storytelling, Marvel’s superheroes, the galaxies of Star Wars, and the diverse films of 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures, there is an extraordinary cinematic history waiting to be explored.

At Disney Film Society, we believe that every movie has a story worth telling—not just the one audiences see on screen, but the remarkable stories of how these films were developed, produced, released, and remembered.
Our goal is simple: to celebrate the movies, explore their history, and share our appreciation for the art of filmmaking.

What You’ll Find at Disney Film Society

Disney Film Society is dedicated to much more than movie reviews. As the site grows, we’ll explore films from across the Disney family of studios through a variety of regular features.

Disney Film News will keep readers informed about upcoming releases, studio announcements, trailers, and other developments from across Disney’s film divisions.

Disney Film Society Reviews will offer thoughtful evaluations of movies both old and new, examining their storytelling, performances, direction, music, visual artistry, and entertainment value. Our reviews will also consider each film’s historical significance through the Disney Legacy Rating.

From the Disney Vault will revisit memorable classics, overlooked productions, and significant films from Disney’s extensive history, exploring the creative decisions, challenges, and achievements that brought them to the screen.

This Week in Disney Film History will highlight notable premieres, anniversaries, filmmaking milestones, and other important moments from the past.

Behind the Magic will take a closer look at the filmmakers, artists, performers, composers, and innovations that helped shape these productions.

We’ll also be developing an expanding Disney Filmography, a historical reference dedicated to documenting films across Disney’s studios, including their original release information, production histories, and connections to our articles and reviews.

Exploring the Entire Disney Film Family

While Walt Disney’s animated classics will always have a special place here, Disney Film Society’s coverage extends well beyond traditional Disney-branded entertainment.

We’ll explore films from Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and historical labels such as Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures

That means our journey will take us through everything from beloved family favorites and animated masterpieces to science fiction, action, comedy, drama, and award-winning independent cinema.

We’ll also recognize the individual histories of studios that joined Disney through later acquisitions, celebrating their contributions to filmmaking long before they became part of The Walt Disney Company.

More Than Just a Movie Blog

One of our goals is to create a growing resource for movie enthusiasts and anyone interested in cinematic history.

We want Disney Film Society to be a place where readers can discover an unfamiliar movie, revisit an old favorite, learn something new about a familiar production, or explore an important chapter in film history.

As the Society grows, we also hope to develop more opportunities for reader participation, including movie discussions, polls, special features, and a community built around a shared appreciation for film.

Whether you’re a lifelong Disney fan, a student of film history, or simply someone who loves a great movie, we hope you’ll find something here worth exploring.
